Rave History is in its 3rd site format since its creation in 2006 but rest assured it's still owned and run by a 30 something ex-raver who cut his teeth at venues such as Shelly's and the Eclipse. An amateur photographer who enjoys taking pictures of everything from wildlife through to wild eyed ravers. A lover of life and a life long lover of music.
Rave History is kept online as my thank you to all silly happy people that gave me some special nights out in my youth. Please note that Rave History offers no downloads or in anyway endorses copyright infridgement. I have no pictures from my own portfolio on this site and any promoters wishing to discuss my audio visual services should contact me by clicking here.
....a magical time remembered
Above: The first 10 minutes of Rag Market but don't get too into it. Lots more Rave History to see
Life must move forward and much as I'd like to teleport back through time like Marty McFly in Back to the Future I sadly as yet haven't found my DeLorean driving Doc Brown and like so many have had to face up to the fact that much as it would be cool to start off old and get younger, it doesn't work that way and thankfully I have to count my lucky stars I got to experience the emergence of the scene.
The scene was different for everyone involved and I have footage from 1989 onwards but I like to think that 1991 was a fun time for all and the Rag Market footage shown above acts as a snapshot of a carefree time. Faces a wash with deep joy. People either swaying with their hands held up to the lasers or jumping up and down like they are on a pogo stick.
White gloves and Stussy hats all over the place. Girls wearing all in one catsuits and the lads all looking like painters and decorators in their white dungarees. You can't buy memories like that. To anyone who was there, you will know what I am talking about.
Special times.
With the growth of the Internet its easy to get your hands on music, old 12's and old skool DJ rave sets but try as you might there are not that many places where you can track down old skool videos. In fact to anyone who remembers the early days of napster when some plum cut your download off at 98%. You will probably like me, cuddle your broadband modem each night and shudder at the thought of going back to dial up.
Well any ways folks, God bless the Internet and all who sail on her. In late 2006 I had a Birmingham club promoter contact me and trust me enough to loan me his sisters original copy from back in the day just so I could make a copy myself.
Totally unexpected. Total result. Priceless. Sincere thanks.
Proof that in a world which isn't short of doughnuts and nutters there are still some cracking people about. Having this site is magic as it draws people in and together. To everyone that been following it since 2006 I am dead chuffed you are still in touch and for that reason I have kept the old guest book online so you can update us on what you are doing and think to the new look site.
Also it will enable people who are new to the site to read back on the guest book and see just how many people have passed by.Just the one video I have on youTube has received over 154, 000 hits since I listed it and this site peaked at a little over 9,000 hits last month so its fair to say there are a few old skool lovers still lurking about. You lot are the reason this site stays online.
This sites for the genuine old skool ravers.
If your one of the internet 'self appointed' elite, sitting on the moral 'rave high ground' acting like you had it better and more than anyone else while throwing repressed vinyl at old ravers like me and moaning about how MCs got in the way of the music. I suggest you 'click off' as it's plums taking things too serious that killed the rave scene in the form that many of us like to remember it as.
If you on the other hand you had some fun wobbling around warehouses, fields and clubs
Then 'God bless you' and please accept my appolgies that the sites a little random. I have tried to keep is as easy to navigate as possible for the simple reason that half the people on here, like me probably can't even work the Sky TV remote and still talk about how much better KitKats were with the foil and wrapper.
This site will continue to grow and won't compete with some of the slicker old skool sites from a web design point of view but remember this site was created with love for the old skool and its as much yours as anybody's.
I don't add my logo to pictures and flyers to stop you using them. You use what you want people and keep the memories alive. If you want to see something included just email me and I'll do my best to include it.

Thank you for dropping by and welcome to Rave History.
The site began back in 2006 following years of me attempting to get my hands on a copy of the video which was filmed at the Birmingham Rag Market rave in 1991. The Rag Market rave took place in the now long gone Rag Market. Anyone who was there will vouch for the splendor and the magnitude of the event.
For one night Birmingham danced as one.
